Salman Khan is the heartthrob of India and now abroad too. Recently, a survey found out that he is the most searched Indian celebrity and also the most wanted celebrity of the country. Khan has constantly been in news, for his films, for his love interests, for his indirect spats with arch-rival Shahrukh Khan and the topics goes endless.
Dabangg Khan has given around 24 years to this industry, starting as a supporting cast in Biwi Ho To Aisi(1988) to the latest Dabangg 2(2012). Lets have a look at some of his best performances as an actor.
1. Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989) : Directed by Sooraj R Barjatya, this one is the first successful film by Salman Khan and after this, the name 'Prem' was another name for Mr.Khan. A love tale truly executed, this one is one of the biggest hits not only of the year 1989, but of the decade. This film made Salman a rising star.
2. Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994) : Again directed by the legendary Sooraj R Barjatya, this one is a musical romantic family film, beautifully portrayed by the two great actors, Salman Khan and the elegant queen Madhuri Dixit. The film won 5 Filmfare Awards as well as the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Earning over 135 Cr during that time, the film was included in "The Biggest Blockbusters Ever In Hindi Cinema" list compiled by Box Office India.
3. Karan Arjun (1995) : An action, thriller, religious, musical film by Rakesh Roshan, 'Karan Arjun' saw both the Khans(Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan) together for the first time here. This one also won many awards and was the second highest grossing film of the year.
4. Judwaa (1997) : Directed by David Dhawan, this one is an action comedy film showcasing Salman in a double role. Khan impersonated both the roles with ideally. It was declared the 7th highest grossing film of the year.
5. Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya (1998) : This film was directed and produced by the super-actor's brother Sohail Khan. Salman and Kajol were paired opposite each other for the first time in this film. The song 'O Oh Jaane Jaana' spread like fire in the country and everyone danced to its beats. This film too won many filmfare awards. Salman Khan also won 'Best Actor Award' for his stellar performance.His taking-off-shirt style reigned from this film.
6. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) : This one is a love triangle magnificently conveyed by the stars Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgan and directed by the great Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The story was adopted from Maitreyi Devi's Bengali novel 'Na Hanyate'. True love also blossomed between Salman and Aishwarya during this film, but eventually broke-up. Salman again, was nominated here for his brilliant performance in the movie.
7. Biwi No. 1 (1999) : This is a comedy film and Salman emerged as a bound and determined personality with this role. He proved his mettle in terms of acting. The chemistry between Salman and Karishma Kapoor was much talked about during the times. Biwi No.1 was again the biggest Bollywood hit of 1999. Salman won Filmfare Award for Best Actor in a Comic Role for this movie.
8. Wanted (2009) : Wanted is a crime, action film and Salman ruled the box-office with this film in terms of action and entertainment. Directed by Prabhu Deva, this one was also the 2nd highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year. This film was critically acclaimed and loved. The film had an excellent opening, grossing Rs. 38 crore in the first week which is not more than a miracle, which only this Khan can create.
9. Dabangg (2010) : Directed by Abhinav Kashyap and produced by Arbaaz Khan, Dabangg is an action film, Dabangg went on to gross 215 crore worldwide and Box office India declared it an all-time blockbuster in the second week of its release. It is the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2010. Salman's look was praised a lot and even we got to see many Dabangg's in every corner of the country donning his look. The pairing of debutante Sonakshi Sinha opposite Salman was also admired.
10. Bodyguard (2011) : This film is produced by Salman's relative Atul Agnihotri and directed by Siddique. Again an action film, this one broke all records in its 1st week crossing 100 Cr mark. The film became a major commercial success with a worldwide gross of 230 crore and also the highest grossing Bollywood film of 2011.
The list is always endless as Salman Khan is attached to it. Dabangg 2, Ready, Ek Tha Tiger, Hum Saath Saath Hain are some of them to name. Khan is going to rock further too with upcoming film 'Mental' and many more.
